Content production planner

Plan article count, total words and writing budget for a defined period, with editorial workflow and measurement guidance.

The working tool

Build a scenario.

Publishing frequency is only useful when the team can research, review and maintain the content. This planner converts a monthly article cadence into total volume and a writing-only budget. Use it to check workload before committing to a calendar.

Calculate your scenario

Select a currency and enter a writing price per word in that currency. The estimate is production arithmetic, not a traffic, ranking or sales forecast.

The tool does not convert currencies.

Know the inputs

What the calculator measures.

The result is the cost of producing the planned words at the selected rate. It deliberately leaves out editorial strategy, keyword research, subject expertise, fact review, design, CMS entry, translation, promotion and updates. A page that answers a decision well may be shorter than the average word target.

Read the inputs before changing them.

Start with a measured value where one exists. Where it does not, run a low, expected and high scenario rather than treating one guess as a forecast.

InputMeaning and practical check
Articles per monthSustainable publishing cadence after allocating time for reviews and updates.
Average words per articlePlanning average rather than a minimum every page must meet. Different questions warrant different depth.
Planning horizon (months)Period over which the calendar and writing budget are committed.
Writing price per wordDirect writing rate in the selected currency. Add research, editorial and specialist review separately if they are not included.

Transparent method

Formula and worked examples.

The calculation is transparent and uses only the fields above. It does not import market benchmarks, current prices or external account data.

Articles = articles/month × months; words = articles × average words; writing budget = words × price/word

A worked example

At eight articles per month for six months, the plan contains 48 articles. An average of 1,200 words yields 57,600 words. At $0.04 per word, the writing budget is $2,304, or $384 per month. This example excludes strategist and editor time.

Put it to work

How to use the estimate.

A calculator helps when its assumptions lead to a specific next action. Use this three-step check before committing budget or building a product.

01

Map user questions

Prioritise service choices, booking objections, trust questions and supporting education before assigning article counts.

02

Set the workflow

Name the researcher, writer, expert reviewer, editor, publisher and owner responsible for keeping facts current.

03

Measure outcomes

Review qualified enquiries and assisted actions along with search visibility. Update strong pages before producing more weak ones.

Where the number can mislead

Word count is an input to budgeting, not a ranking factor or quality target. The model treats every article as the same length and rate; complex research, interviews, graphics, localization and maintenance will change cost. Separate content creation from SEO retainers and technical work in your plan.

Straight answers

Frequently asked questions.

Does writing more words guarantee better search rankings?

No. Match the depth to the user question, accuracy and the page purpose. Excess length can make a page less useful.

What if editing is included in the per-word rate?

Then do not add it twice. Record exactly what the rate covers, including revisions and any subject-matter review.

Should service pages be counted as articles?

Only if you intentionally budget them at the same production rate and workflow. Commercial service pages often need different research and conversion work.

How do I plan for updates?

Reserve editorial capacity to revise important pages when offers, interfaces or sourced facts change; do not use the whole schedule for new drafts.

Can I enter an INR rate?

Yes. Select INR and use the price per word in rupees. The calculation does not convert exchange rates; all money inputs should use the same currency.
